Hair extensions have come a long way. Nowadays, there are too many methods to count and there are always new techniques being taught. We have had many methods done on our own heads and have even learned and mastered a handful of methods ourselves. We have spent the time researching and testing out techniques and methods, so you don’t have to! Here is our guide to choosing the best hair extension method for yourself!
Clip-In Extensions
This type of extensions are great for elevating different hairstyles for an event! Clip-in extensions offer instant volume and length without a long-term commitment. While they're a fantastic choice for occasional use, they might not be as seamless for everyday wear. Also, you run the risk of damaging your natural hair if they are being installed incorrectly or if you’re putting too much weight on your natural hair.
2. Tape-In Extensions
Tape-Ins have been around for some time now, but are unfortunately extremely damaging. This method of extensions involves attaching wefts to your natural hair using adhesive strips. While they can be a cheaper option, they are not as seamless and can be hard to hide within the hair and the adhesive creates an immense amount of damage when being twisted, pulled, and removed.
3. Keratin Bonded Extensions
Also called Fusion Extensions, this method of extensions is applied by using heated keratin bonds to fuse the extension hair with your natural hair. As they grow out, the weight of the extensions can take a toll on your natural hair and the twisting of the extensions can pull and even rip out your hair. The removal process is very lengthy and also damaging to your natural hair.
4. I-Tip Extensions
I-Tips is a method that uses a bead to clamp a clump of extension hair to a small section of your natural hair. Same as the Keratin Bonded method, the weight of the extensions isn’t evenly distributed across your hair causing it to pull and damage your natural hair. And the twisting and movement of the bead can damage and matt your natural hair.
5. Hand-Tied Extensions
Last but certainly not least, is Hand-Tied extensions. There are lots of variations of this method out there, but without a doubt, hand-tied extensions are the least damaging and can be the most natural-looking method out there! Using wefts of extension hair and beads to create a track across the scalp, your extensions are sewn onto the track distributing the hair evenly. This method is very customizable and can match your natural hair giving you that seamless blend!

After researching, trial and error with our own hair, and learning different method techniques, we fell in love with these methods. They are the least damaging method we found, can be fully customizable to create a seamless, natural-looking blend, and are safe on all hair types. What’s not to love??
It's important to understand that the price of hair extensions often reflects the quality of the hair itself and the expertise and skill required for that method. Methods like luxury hand-tied extensions require many years of training and lots of time practicing and mastering the techniques. On the other hand, methods like Tape-Ins or Keratin Bonded extensions may have a lower upfront cost but can lead to long-term maintenance expenses and potential hair damage.
